Israel former president of Collin College with the Florence Shapiro Distinguished Leadership Award on April 17 at A Gathering of Inspiration at the John Anthony Theatre at Collin CollegeSpring Creek Campus. This award honors those whose leadership skills and dedication have made a significant impact on the success and continued growth of the quality of life in Plano and the surrounding area of Collin County. During Dr. Israels 16 years of visionary leadership the college grew to 52000 students several impressive libraries and conference centers were construct- ed and the new Collin Higher Education Center was built in McKinney. Collin College received numerous national awards for excellence in education raising the profile of the community college educational system both in our own com- munity and beyond. And recently The Dr. Cary A. Israel Health Sciences Center was dedicated by the college in his honor. In the spirit of inspiration longtime community volunteer and Special Olympics champion Bradley Rossel of Dal- las received the Chesed Award for outstanding community work. ST. PHILIPS 16TH ANNUAL DESTINY AWARDS St. Philips School and Community Center held its 16th Annual Destiny Awards Lun- cheon on March 4. The event garnered historical success with a match donation of 250000 from Gradus making the proceeds of the event exceed the 900000 mark. Over 700 guests attended the monumental luncheon where St. Philips also celebrated its 70th year of ministry education and service in the South Dallas community. The event featured a moderated interview of Oscar nominee Emmy Tony and SAG Award winning actress Viola Davis by WFAA reporter Rebecca Lopez. Ms. Davis capti- vated and inspired guests with her message as she described her path to success out of abject poverty. Abigail and Todd Williams received the first Humanitarian Award which recognizes exceptional work toward bridging relationships between diverse communities.
